Read a stored value

Practitioner 20 pts

Goal: Run GET on a key and read the value the server returns over RESP.

Capture it yourself — real Redis needs a terminal

  1. Start Wireshark on your active interface with filter tcp.port == 6390 (or sudo tcpdump -i any -w cap.pcap port 6390).
  2. Run this against the real Redis server on this box:
redis-cli -h ctf.nitaimaarek.com -p 6390 GET flag    # or:  printf 'GET flag\r\n' | nc ctf.nitaimaarek.com 6390

Stop the capture and Follow → TCP Stream. The server returns the value of the flag key as a bulk string — that value is the answer.

No nc? On Linux/macOS try ncat, or bash: exec 3<>/dev/tcp/ctf.nitaimaarek.com/6390. The exchange is plaintext, so it's fully readable in your capture — that's the whole point.

Hints

Open in order — they nudge, not solve.

Hint 1

Capture tcp.port == 6390, then redis-cli -h ctf.nitaimaarek.com -p 6390 GET flag (or the printf … | nc form).

Hint 2

The reply is a RESP bulk string: $NN then the value on the next line.

Hint 3

That value (REDIS-VALUE-…) is the answer.
